Aircare® purification system

An air purification system equipped with photocatalytic filters that breaks down 99.9% of the most harmful indoor pollutants.

Technology

The technology used by Aircare for the indoor purification activities is Vairus, an innovative photocatalytic oxidative air purification system, which occurs through the combination of UV-A LEDs and photo-active Titanium Dioxide.

The purifier is able to break down 99.9% of organic substances such as viruses, bacteria and mold; gaseous compounds such as volatile organic compounds (VOC), Formaldehyde, Ammonia.

The filtration method removes nanometric impurities from the air through the process of photocatalytic oxidation (PCO). The treated air passes through 4 levels of filtration: a mechanical pre-filter to prevent the passage of solids (>3000 microns) and three independent ceramic filters treated with Titanium Dioxide (TiO2).

The ceramic filters do not require periodic replacement (it is estimated a life of about 4 years), the maintenance is limited only to washing and periodic replacement of the pre-filter. The internal UV-A LED kit, has a useful life (maintaining a luminous efficiency of 70%) of 35,000 h

Proven effectiveness

January 2021, to specifically verify the virucidal efficacy of the Aircare Vairus purifier filter system, a test was performed on the SARS-COV2_COV2019 ITALY/INMI1 strain in an accredited class 3 laboratory authorized to handle tests on COVID-19.

Virus

The Aircare Vairus purifier consists of a porous photocatalytic filter system interspersed with UV-A light LED boards. Virus was placed on the filter in three positions irradiated with UV light. At each of the three positions, 100μL of a viral suspension was placed at the UV light.

Then at 5-minute, 1-hour, and 4-hour intervals, residual virus activity was tested by evaluating the 50% tissue culture infectious dose (TCID50). The evaluated device demonstrated an average reduction of 3.25 Log10 in viral titer (99.94% reduction) after a 5-minute exposure.

Bacteriological

Bacteria Typing has not been performed following the treatment as a reduction of 99% has been recorded after one hour of treatment, of 99.5% after four hours of treatment and 99.9% after eight hours of treatment.

Molds

Mold Typing has not been performed following the treatment as a reduction of 99% has been recorded after one hour of treatment, of 99.5% after four hours of treatment and 99.9% after eight hours of treatment.

Chemical compounds

A 99.99% reduction of Acetaldehyde and Ammonia has been recorded after just one hour of treatment. A 99.9% reduction of Acetic Acid, Toluene and Formaldehyde has been recorded after one hour of treatments and of VOC after eight hours of treatment.
